I recientlyl had the opportunity visit the Florida House in our Nations Capital. The Florida House is supported by the citizens of the Florida and provides opportunities to enrich their appreciation and knwledge of our nation's government. Florida is the only State embassy in Washington, DC.
Florida House
The Florida House was the result of the vision of Mrs. Rhea Chiles to have an embassy for Floridians in Washington, DC. Her husband Lawton Chiles served as a Florida State Representative, United States Senator and the Governor of Florida. The Florida House was founded in 1972.

The Florida House is the restored 100 year old Manning house on One Second Street N.E. in Washington, DC. Liz seen in orange in this image serves on the Florida House board and planned our tour.

This is the garden fountain in the front outside recption area.

The Florida House has been completly restored . This is one of the original 100 year old stained glass windows in the reception area.

While at the Florida House our group was treated to a fantastic dinner. This is our touring group from Florida along with Liz and Bart Hudson standing in the background. Bart Hudson is the President and CEO of the Florida House.

The dinner at the Florida House was the best of our trip. The desset was REALLY over the top. The Florida House does know how to entertain its guest.

Our group had a guided tour of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery. You can use your camera to take images in the Museum. This is our tour arrving in the open courtyard reception area.
Katharlne Hepburn's 1933 Oscar CBW
This is the Oscar that Kathrine Hepburn was awarded for Best Actress in the 1933 movie "Morning Glory". The Oscar is in the National Potrait Gallery. The painting behind the Oscar is by Everett Raymond Kinstler 1982.

George Bush Horseshoe Player
This sculpture in bronze by Pat Oliphant of George Bush as a horseshoe player is a must see. The sculpture is found in the National Portrait Gallery.
The Dying Tecumseh
This sculpture by Ferdinand Pettrich in 1856 was moving to see. Tecumseh was a Shawnee chief from the Ohio Valley. He was killed during the War of 1812 at the Battle of the Thames. (Ontario)

Antique Car - 014 Bond 007 Aston Martin
We vistied the National Spy Museum. I would not have gone there on my own but had a great time and would recommend it to everyone. This is James Bond 's Aston Martin.
The Golden Typewriter
The Golden Typewriter is found in the National Sype Museum. This typewriter belonged to Lady Dogean Smithers. Her husband Sir Peter Smithers worked closely with Ian Fleming for British Naval Intelliigence. It is Smither's exploits that contrubuted to Flemng's character James Bond. Fleming like Lady Dogean's typewriter so much he purchased one himself.
Enigma Cipher
This is the Enigma cipher machine used during World War II by the German Luftwaffe. The machine is also found in the National Spy Museum.
Newseum Control
The Newseun is a must see in Washington. The Museum champions the five freedoms of the fist ammendment. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of RELIGION, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: or abridging the freedom of SPEECH, or the PRESS; or the right of the people to peaceably ASSEMBLE, and to PETITION the government for a redress of grievances."
The Berlin Wall
These are the actual parts of 12 foot high sections of the Berlin wall. The pieces of the wall and the East German guard tower that stood near Checkpoint Charlie are in the Newseum.

This is part of the engine that was recovered at the World Trade Center . Just seeing the actual part of the engine causes you to just stand, wonder and have a silent moment. This is also located in the Newseum.
